Engaging with the family to get kids more active – FOCUS GROUPS

shutterstock_84770905By getting our kids more active, we can help them grow, learn and have fun. We are interested in encouraging the whole family to sit less and move more – but have struggled to find families who want to be involved in our research.

We’d love to chat with you and your children about ways we can effectively engage families in physical activity and sedentary behaviour studies.

We are looking for families with a child aged between 8 and 11 years old.

Everyone who takes part will receive a £5 shopping voucher.

What would I need to do?
You would need to take part in a focus group session including each member of your household. The session would last a maximum of one hour. We would ask you to:

  • Give your thoughts on why you would, and why you wouldn’t, get involved in a physical activity and sedentary behaviour study
  • Allow your children to play simple games that will help us understand their views
  • Fill out a short questionnaire about you and your family – including demographic information and estimates of your current activity patterns

The session can take place in your home at a time which suits your family.

What should I do next?
